Catherine Kirkpatrick is a writer and award-winning photographer based in New York City. Her work has been exhibited widely, and 11 of her images received Honorable Mentions in a division of the 2019 Julia Margaret Cameron International Photography Competition in Still Life and Alternative Processes categories.

She wrote introductions for Meryl Meisler's books A Tale of Two Cities: Disco Era Bushwick and Purgatory & Paradise: SASSY 70s Suburbia & the City that were quoted in features on NewYorker.com. She blogged for Arts in Bushwick and Professional Women Photographers (PWP), where she produced two 30 day blog series in 2012 and 2016 in honor of Women’s History Month.

One called 30 By 30 ran in 2012, and included photo luminaries such as Vicki Goldberg, Editta Sherman, and New York Times Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Ruth Fremson. The series was featured on the 3rd Ward blog, Time Light Box, and Elizabeth Avedon’s blog.

Another article about a Buddhist photographer and the first NYPD women on patrol was named by PhotoShelter to its list of Top Photography Blog Posts of 2011. She also wrote for PWP’s magazine IMPRINTS, served on the organization’s board, and supervised the acquisition of its archives by the Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives and Rare Book Library of Emory University. Her work was included in the 2016 book Making History: Bushwick, a celebration of the area’s vibrance as an arts scene.

She is working on an oral history about making photographs in the digital age, and contributes writing and photography to ArtSpiel.org. In recent years she has had solo shows at the Front Art Space and Midoma Gallery in Manhattan, and participated in a number of group exhibitions. In 2015, her shared studio on Morgan Avenue was noted by Bushwick Daily and Artnet as a place to see during Bushwick Open Studios.

She has written essays for several art catalogs, and does freelance writing, editing and graphics.
